TASP PROGRAM COORDINATOR

THE POSITION


Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the overall functioning of TNDC’s Tenderloin After-School Program (TASP), a community-based youth center serving children between the ages of 5 and 18. The program creatively addresses the educational and recreational needs of the participants by incorporating innovative, culturally diverse programming in all activities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overall planning and supervision of daily programming and operations in collaboration with the other Program Coordinator; design and implementation of dynamic math, literacy, art, and science programs; intensive involvement in academic support program, including School Liaison responsibilities; planning, coordination, and implementation of fun, exciting field trips year-round; overall coordination of volunteer program, including volunteer trainings, recruitment, retention.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Program development and implementation in collaboration with other Program Coordinator around theme days and complementary learning activities.
  2. Serve as Lead Staff for daily homework support program, including managing volunteer tutors, for grades K-8. Assist Manager with Wednesday evening teen homework sessions.
  3. Design and implement weekly math and literacy activities.
  4. Design and implement cultural activities program.
  5. Oversee the volunteer program which includes volunteer recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention. Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer files.
  6. Serve as lead staff for participant enrollment, including detailed maintenance of participant files and information, in both Spanish and English.
  7. Represent the program and sometimes the agency to the public.
  8. Participate in community outreach efforts.
  9. Attend all required meetings, including Board meetings if necessary.
  10. Assist in fund raising efforts as needed.
  11. Submit written and oral reports to the TASP Program Manager as directed.
  12. Maintain daily participant sign in sheet, weekly statistics, and tabulate data.
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to bring strong, sustained enthusiasm to working with children and youth.
  • Ability to work with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages 5-18.
  • Strong academic and tutoring skills for grades K-12.
  • Ability to thrive in high-energy, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent skills in time management, organization, planning and project management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills, flexibility, and initiative.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups of people, individuals, and agencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally diverse programs for youth.
  • Excellent team building skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.A. in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Recreation, or related field.
  • Demonstrated minimum 3 years experience working with low-income, urban youth.
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English).
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and resourcefulness in youth programming.
  • Strong knowledge of Mac and PC systems. Proficient with MS Word and Outlook.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with diverse learning styles and teaching styles.
  • Experience negotiating w/public school systems.
  • Familiarity with youth and family resources.
  • M.A. in Education or related field.

SALARY
$35,000 - $37,500 plus excellent benefits
