Developed by TNDC in partnership with Citizens Housing Corporation, SOMA Studios and Family Apartments was completed in 2004 and offers affordable homes for low-income individuals and families plus ample ground-floor retail space to help revitalize the SOMA neighborhood. As our nation moves toward a more green way of living, affordable housing providers have been making the move to incorporate cost-effective green technology advances into existing multifamily housing. “We know how to incorporate green technology in new buildings,” said Don Falk, TNDC’s Executive Director. TNDC’s award-winning new 990 Polk building, completed in 2009, incorporates green features such as Energy Star appliances, a high-efficiency irrigation system, and low-VOC paints and adhesives. “But what we want to know is how do we incorporate energy-efficient ideas that pay for themselves into older, existing buildings?” MORE

TNDC Takes Over Management of Citizens Housing Corporation's San Francisco Assets

On November 2, 2009, TNDC added six buildings and 548 homes for low-income San Franciscans to our management portfolio. This represents a 30% increase, bringing the total number of affordable housing units we provide to over 2,300. Citizens Housing Corporation, a San Francisco-based housing developer with 24 properties in northern California, has asked TNDC to assume property management responsibility for their San Francisco portfolio of affordable housing assets.
