Leadership Development

The overall goal of our educational programs is to teach people to effectively work on issues that are important to them, their families, and their community and then help them apply the skills they’ve learned to actual campaigns and issue-based efforts. Our programs are designed to support the grassroots leadership of local residents by providing them a space for personal development, and tools for political analysis, and critical thinking. CO wants to work with anyone who’s interested in improving the Tenderloin or learning more about their community.

Our classes empower community members to become effective leaders in their neighborhoods through a popular education curriculum covering personal narratives, campaign development, and policy areas directly impacting residents’ lives.

The Leadership Academy is a cohort-based class, which is designed to help the residents of the Tenderloin grow in their leadership and personal development by providing both hands-on skills for community organizing and tools for political analysis and critical thinking. This course trains participants to become effective leaders in their neighborhood with real-time fieldwork experiences and opportunities to get plugged in to issue-based campaigns to improve the Tenderloin community.

HCSC educates residents about healthy eating habits and engages community members through our Food Justice Academy. Each course consists of an 11-week, skills-based and political education training focused on local, culturally appropriate and responsive food systems.
